At H2O Audio, we take immense pride in celebrating the achievements of our athletes, and today, we’re thrilled to recognize the incredible Grace "Gracie" Van Der Byl. Recently honored by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF) as an Honor Swimmer, Grace’s contributions to open-water swimming and her unmatched records are a testament to her remarkable talent and dedication.

A Record-Breaking Legacy

Grace’s swim resume is nothing short of extraordinary, with records that continue to stand the test of time. Here are just a few highlights from her legendary career:

  • Catalina Channel Crossing (2012): Grace set the overall speed record, completing the swim from Catalina to the mainland in 7 hours, 27 minutes, and 25 seconds. She beat the times of fifty IMSHOF honorees who had attempted this feat.
  • S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge (2013): She set the overall speed record across this iconic series.
  • 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim (2012): Grace holds the total speed record across all seven stages of this grueling competition.
  • Cape May Crossing (2013): Another overall speed record in her illustrious career.
  • Lake Memphremagog (2014): She set the female speed record, adding to her collection of unmatched accomplishments.

These records have stood strong through 2024, underscoring Grace’s dominance in the world of marathon swimming.

Victories Across the Globe

Grace has consistently proven her ability to compete and win at the highest level. From amateur races spanning 10 to 45.9 km, she has secured top finishes, often beating both male and female competitors. Some of her standout victories include:

  • Lake Memphremagog
  • S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge
  • Around Manhattan Swim
  • 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim (all 7 stages)
  • Cape May Crossing
  • Rottnest Channel Swim (2015): Female division champion.

Contributions Beyond the Pool

Beyond her records and wins, Grace has made a lasting impact on the open-water swimming community. She pioneered the support kayak network now used by the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation and has supported over 50 Catalina crossings as a coach, kayaker, crew member, and captain.

A True H2O Audio Ambassador

We’re honored that Grace uses H2O Audio products in her training and adventures. Based in Solana Beach, California, she’s a familiar and friendly face at the local pool, and it’s always a joy to see her in action.

As a company dedicated to pushing boundaries and empowering athletes to Go Beyond, we couldn’t be prouder to support Grace and celebrate her achievements. Her incredible legacy inspires swimmers worldwide, and her recognition as an IMSHOF Honor Swimmer is well-deserved.

Congratulations, Grace, and thank you for being a part of the H2O Audio family!
