How music-fueled training and years of grit led to a dominant hometown victory
Joe Goettl’s journey with Belgian Waffle Ride Utah goes way back—to the very beginning of his gravel racing career. In 2020, BWR Utah marked his debut in high-level gravel competition. He finished 9th that day, but more importantly, something lit a fire. Fast forward to 2025, and Joe crossed the line first, claiming his biggest BWR result yet—on home turf.
“BWR Utah is special for me. It’s just three hours south of where I live, and the 2020 edition was where it all started. This win means everything.”
Joe is a rider who trains with intention—and with music. Long hours in the saddle demand focus, rhythm, and mental toughness. For that, he turns to the H2O Audio TRI 2 PRO, relying on its bone-conduction design and dual-mode functionality (Bluetooth + Memory) to push through both solo workouts and race-prep efforts. Whether he’s tackling tempo intervals or just zoning in on recovery spins, music keeps him dialed.
Race Day: All-In, All-Out
With four previous top-10 finishes at BWR Utah, Joe came into this year’s race not just prepared—but determined. His plan was to stay patient, make moves when the course demanded it, and deliver on climbs. But no one could have predicted the level of dominance he’d show on Mt. Kanarraberg—a brutal climb stretching over 2.6 miles at punishing gradients.
As the lead group began to splinter, Joe found himself in rare form. By the halfway point of the climb, he was solo off the front. With over 30 seconds on the nearest chaser and a ripping tailwind, Joe leaned into his aero setup and pushed the advantage all the way to the finish line.
“I was holding a power I wasn’t sure I could sustain, but I sensed it was my moment. I just kept going.”
Built with Sound Strategy and Support
Joe’s win wasn’t just about physical performance—it was the product of relentless preparation, a clear mental plan, and unwavering support. His wife, Kendra, was there for every aid station, helping him execute a flawless race-day strategy. After five years of racing in Cedar City, the Goettl's finally got the home win they’ve been chasing.
“Crossing that line and embracing Kendra at the finish… that was everything. This was our race.”
Joe, we’re beyond proud to have you as part of the H2O Audio team. You went beyond in every sense—and we can’t wait to see you bring this momentum into Unbound next weekend.
